Recently I have been working on a series of large scale paintings that describe vivid imaginative imagery with the use of sunflowers. Bright yellows and deep oranges. In The Key To Nibiru I was using cadmium yellows because I was unaware of the toxicity of cadmium paints, but since the end of 2023 I eradicated the use of cadmium paints from my practice and began searching for an alternative yellow paint that was similar to the opacity of cadmium yellows. I couldn’t find a good alternative so I managed to make my own through experimentation. In the bottom painting ‘Dreams Of Tuscany’ I began using my own blend of bismuth yellow paint from Windsor and Newton and mixing it with Michael Harding’s bright yellow lake. Mixed evenly it creates both a vivid and opaque yellow without the toxins.
